Karl has lived and worked in Yorkshire most of his life and having recently retired from a thirty year career now intends to devote his time to his passion for Art.

He started painting seriously in 2009  when a work colleague asked to assist with a community art project.

This reignited his dream of following his heart into the art world. 

He followed up the project with some local art classes and joined an art club.  Buoyed by interest in his work at their annual exhibitions he then spread his wings further afield by entering art into regional exhibitions. 

At his first Cawood Arts festival he entered work into three categories and impressed the late David Newbould enough to be awarded first place in each category.

At the last Cawood show in 2016 Karl won the best in show award with a painting shown on this page , "Pensive".

He then entered exhibitions at Boston Spa and Holmfirth and this year (2020) Covid Permitting he is the guest artist at The British Art Exhibitions show in Harrogate. 

He has sold paintings to collectors in the UK, USA and Russia.

He predominantly creates work in oils and graphite pencil and his genre of choice is figurative and portraits, saying , "The unending diversity of the human face and figure constantly amazes me"

 

2022 UPDATE

I will be appearing as a contestant on Channel 4's Art show, "Drawers off" from June 6th-10th.
